Celebrity of the Week (09/23/2002)

This weeks Celebrity of the Week is a change of pace. This weeks CotW does not help people at all. In fact, he chases them around and tries to make their life a little more brief than they probably would have liked.

I recently passed this character on my way to the market.
Ok, not really. I was at a champ spawn on the outer fringes when I saw what most people dread, a "RED". This red was planning to accost the Oaks spawn and was quite adamant about getting past the assorted forces against him, Wisp and Kirin (and then myself). After a few runs through the good natures Wisp and Kirin who sought to block his passage Jheran was forced back to the outside of the spawn.

At this point I helped him kill off a couple of the wisp following him out and we called an informal truce. I engaged him in banter as I took the risk of switching over to 3D for this shot. What I found was not your a-typical PK, and a PK he was. As we talked I found out there is a new red force growing in Sonoma, one of destruction, but also one of virtue. In a traditional sense, I guess I would call them Lawful Evil. They have a strict non-griefing code of engagement. Now some consider any attacks on an unprepared person a griefer, but in the essense of Fel these reds were almost (dare I say) Polite.

I was invited back to their house (another risk I decided to take) and there I met a couple others as well (note: at this point I am back in 2D for escape purposes since we were going outside of dungeon server). There they talked about how they go about their lives, how they treat those that they encounter, and how they seek to add to the danger of Fel without being the smack talking PK that most people encounter. One of the most interesting actions that they said they undertook was to rez their recently killed (off dungeon server obviously) once they had looted them and placed 2 recall scrolls on their corpse.

I can honestly say it was one of the most delightful hours or so I have spent in UO in quite some time. To see a different perspective, to meet some "ethical" Reds, and to have escaped when they had decided it was time for my "initiation". I always had that recall macro ready guys. HAHA
